Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease is a common condition that can affect your gums and supporting structures of the teeth. There are two main stages to periodontal disease;
Gingivitis is a relatively common condition typically confined to the gums causing them to bleed easily when brushed and giving them a red, swollen and glossy appearance. You may also experience increased tooth sensitivity and bad breath.
Periodontitis is a more serious condition and may irreversibly damage the surrounding bone and supporting tissues of the teeth. Whilst in the early stages of the disease the signs and symptoms may not be obvious, over time the gums become detached from the teeth causing recession, loose teeth and eventually tooth loss.
The best way to avoid periodontal disease is to regularly brush and floss your teeth, not to smoke, maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet and to visit your dentist regularly.
At Hebden Bridge Dental Care we have a number of skilled clinicians, hygienists and therapists who have special interests in the treatment of periodontal disease. We have a variety of solutions from simple preventative approaches to more complex surgical treatments like tissue regeneration procedures, bone and gingival grafts and pocket reduction therapy.
